Got another hifonics ( really hate these transistors clips) All power supply FETs are shorted, half of the gate resistors are discoloured.




(These parts appear to drive the gates)

Q7 is toasted its marked c3228. Is it ok to use the ksc2690 as a sub again?

Q8 is toasted also. It's marked a1275 (2sa1275 correct?) I plan on ordering from mouser since they have other parts I need but they don't have a1275. Is there a sub I could use?

Have you made a tool to take the clips off?

For the power supply drivers, I've been using the BD139 and BD140 as subs.

The 2690 should work for the NPN driver.

Havnt made a tool yet. Definitely will now. I used the clips from this amp to finish up the other brutus I have. I called maxxsonic and they told me to try calling Cia engineering and the audio clinic for replacements. I will try them tomorrow.

After you make the tool to remove them, you'll only dislike them instead of hating them. It takes less than 1 second to pop them off.

If it's using the DWM1216 driver board, Q7, 11, 19 and 22 regularly fail.

* For amps that use SMD resistors, keep a good selection of sub 1000 ohm 0805 resistors and sub 500 ohm 1206 resistors.

* For most all of the amps below, the IRF3205 is a good sub for PS FETs rated greater than 50 amps. The IRFZ44 is a good sub for PS FETs rated for 50 amps or less.

* For amps greater than 10 years old, you may want to replace all of the electrolytic capacitors. These will vary too greatly to include suggestions for replacements here.

* PS driver ICs TL594 and SG3525 will cover most amps. SG3524 and SG3526 are also common but are rarely needed.

* For generic amplifiers, the power supply gate resistors often open or change value. Stock both 1/4 watt and 1/8w of 10, 27, 33, 47, 68 and 100 ohm resistors.

On r60a I reads 4.7v on r60 I'm reading 1.4v is that normal? (Sides closest to drivers)

Probably not. Are the drivers identical?

Have you removed them to confirm that all are in good condition?

I used the bd139 and 140, and I have not removed them yet. I did remove the side of the resistors closestto the drivers and the voltages went up.

Those feed the drivers. I'd suspect a defective driver, a driver that's installed backwards or one that's in the wrong location.

Could you verify q7 q7a q8 q8a? Maybe I wrote them down wrong.

The center legs of the PNP drivers (BD140) will be directly connected (0 ohms) to the amp's ground terminal.

I had the order correct i think i might have installed them backwards.

The two resistors connect to the bases (pin 3) of the drivers.
