Default General question about speaker outputs and wire

I've been told to run a certain size speaker wire to prevent loss/resitance depending on length of wire and power going through it, and I understand that. What seems weird to me is that I am running giant wire in relation to the traces in the amp that go directly to the speaker outputs.
How is it that these tiny little traces can carry so much power? Or is it due to such a short distance to the speaker terminals?

sorry if this is a silly question.

The total resistance is determined by the cross section of the copper conductor and the length of the conductor. The loss in the traces is low and the loss in the wire is low unless you have really small wire or really long runs of wire.

Large wire isn't really needed in most instances. There's a calculator on the 'Wire' page of the site (page 16) that will show you how much loss there is for a length of wire.
