Default Need repair for a Rockford Fosgate Punch 600a5

My brother tried to install this RF 600a5 in his Lexus IS 300 almost 2 years ago. When he hooked up the amp, he didn't notice that the sub wires had touched each other (positive and negative). He then turned up the volume on his HU. There was static with a high pitched noise only coming through the speakers. The amp became very hot to the touch. Can someone please give me some feedback as to whether the amp needs repair and how much it would cost if this is the case? He was looking forward to running his setup with the 600a5, but now since there's an issue with it, he'll have to wait.

Today after talking to my brother, because he wants to see about repairing the amp, I went to an electronic repair shop, and had a tech test it. He told me the power output is bad. He also said there's no sound coming from the RCA's. He quoted me at least $200 to repair it and it would be better to just buy a new one. Being an older amp, the money he spent, he'd rather just get it fixed and get it working. I don't think he'd want to spend any more on buying different amps if this can get fixed.

I contacted Rockford Fosgate and the only repair shop they recommended is Landis Technical Services since Rockford doesn't repair older amps.

Looking forward to your answers.

The schematic for this amp is on the Rockford tech web site as a free download. So tech info is there for the willing to do the work. I have fixed a few in the day. the amp is one of RF's older designs. It should be a piece of cake unless your tech doesn't like SMD components. Bass channel failure is most common, and it is a unique design but with the diagram from Rockford it should not be too much of challenge to a competent tech.

The amp was over $600.00 new so don't get too shell shocked about $200.00 quotes for repair. Depending on how much damage is done inside it might be a very fair price. Power supplies like to blow out when bass channels blow so your troubles might be deeper then they appear in your thread text. Only a look inside will tell otherwise....

Check the Rockford tech library web site I know I saw the print for this one there. As I recall I downloaded it myself just for reference info. Here is the link below:
