Default Android phone direct to amp (no H/U)--sound quality questions

Hello.

My head unit was stolen and I don't want to install another one. I really only used it for it's aux source input anyway.

If I hook my Droid's headphone output directly to a JL 500/5 amp--will the source signal be strong enough to sound good?

If not--Is there any small preamp that I could use to bring up the source signal voltage to an acceptable level?

Thanks!

You will need a preamp eq. The eq will need a volume control with 6 channel preamp output. You also will need a cable from your phone to ends with rca's for the eq input. Preferably an eq with a line driver.

Oh yeah. I forgot that I would need 5 separate channels. Yes, 1/8 stereo to RCA's cable is no problem.

Thanks for the input (pun intended).

you most likely will better sound quality and higher volume if you can fashion a micro usb to rca cable. Or purchase one.

Oh, really? I had no idea that the micro USB had audio signal. Is it an analog signal or something that needs to be decoded and converted to analog? In other words... Could I just splice USB into the micro USB cable and be done with it or is it something more involved?

Thanks for the help.

Before you spend any money, try the 1/8" to RCA. It should be good enough.

Okay. Thanks!

Oh, Perry Babin... I recognize your name. Was in love with your site years ago. Paid for a copy of the site on disc and everything. Haven't been back there for years though due to life/time constraints. Will have to check it out again, soon.

1/8 to rca should work alright. I often use my old iPod for testing out amps on the bench, and it gets connected just like that. Some amps need reference to ground on the RCA shields, but most amps will work OK. I do not recommend grounding RCA shields in a car.

If you have any wierdness or noise just post up and we'll help ya.
