This is a Generic Type 2 Class-D amp which has a problem with vibration. The owner states when the bass hits hard, the amp cuts in and out at different SPL levels. Also the owner states when he 'beats' on the amp with hand motions the amp will also cut out. I called the customer back to confirm, as i cannot cause the issue in which he describes.
Inside the amp, I find no fault that which I can tell besides a noisy fan. In reading the DVD, I find several areas where coils are prone to shorting, but no matching symptoms found - such as filter caps look perfect in this amp. All solder joints look fine. No shorts or damaged components what what i test and see. Is there perhaps one particular component which may be the most blame for the problem? |

Did you try twisting the inductors and caps to see if you could replicate the problem?
Was the cover possibly shorting to the inductors?

I found that RCA Shields and speaker terminals had +B voltage referencing amp ground. i then found the main PS transformer with an intermittent short. I was able to isolate and insulate the shorted windings.
Thanks Perry |
