OK, I'm new here and don't have repair experience, but I did earn a BSEE a few years back and would like to give this a shot after I'm done moving and have some work space.
Anyway, the large inductor next to the transformer is burnt to a crisp. I'm guessing that this is an output filter for the power supply side. Maybe? Does this mean that there is for sure an output transistor shorted somewhere to draw the current needed to do that? Is it likely that there are numerous damaged FETs as a result of that draw? Is the PS regulated? What else should be checked? Is there a schematic out there or a doc showing proper rail voltages, etc? I'll be able to post better questions once I get a large 1-2 ohm resistor to turn this thing on. I also have a dumb question. How can bipolar rails be produced by a supply that is laid out like a single voltage supply? I feel like I should know this and it's bothering me. If anyone would like to point me in the right direction, I will be thankful. |

Look up any post with Perry Babin in it, check his signature line. The basic amp repair is a good place to start.
