A few years ago I was surprised (but should not have been) to learn that my BMW CD compatible head unit needed a BMW CD Changer, costing about 3 times as much as the same type of trunk mounted changer available from electronics stores.
All the head units do is send pulses to the changer for control, and receive analog audio. Has anyone ever thought of or attempted to build a circuit that would convert CD control pulses from a head unit to CD control pulses accepted by a known CD changer, in order to connect "incompatible" head units with CD changers? I think it could be a simple circuit with a controller and maybe few other components. Is there any interest in doing this or reason why it wouldn't work? |

Maybe you could consider pre built adaptors. It's not universal, but it would allow you to use a cheaper 3rd party changer instead of the bavarian unit.
