Unhappy Pioneer disk changer probem

Ok so here's my situation. I bought a new car yesterday that came with a pioneer 6 cd magazine type changer in the trunk, with a little display up front. I'll pretty much just describe everything that happened in hopes you guys can give me some advise, and please go easy on me, this is my first post
When it's on, the little display for it shows a totally black screen. I tried pressing the eject button on the changer but nothing happened. Tried unhooking power for a minute then reconnecting, still no luck.
I took the top cover off of the cd changer itself to see what was happening (Every so often you could here something moving, yet it never seemed to do anything) and there seemed to be a cd stuck half way loaded, so I pushed it back into the stack, hooked everything back up and tried the eject button again and out popped the magazine.
I thought this was good news so I looked at the display, still black. darn. Made sure there was a cd in it, and after pushing the magazine into the changer a few times, it accepted the magazine and attempted to load the cd on the bottom of the stack. It seemed like it did the same thing that caused the problem in the first place (The cd went half way into the reader but popped out of it's tray and stayed half way there) then the reader tried moving up, but because of the disk, it jammed, moved back down, tried again, and the process repeated untill I pushed the cd back in to the stack, then the reader moved up, waited about 5 seconds, moved down, waited, moved up, etc.
I just have no idea where to start or what could be causing this problem. Any ideas?
Any advise is greatly appreciated.
