That sounds similar to the power acoustik ones my friend used to sell. The weaker model produced 600 rms into 2ohms mono or 1 ohm stereo, I think its big brother was 1200. Those were actually pretty overbuilt. I only repaired a couple out of the tons he sold and those were from connecting power improperly and speaker wires shorting to the sink. The ones I'm mentioning also had the dual switching supplies and I thought that was strange back then as well for a two channel amp. Is the amp you have full range or digital? From searching around it seems pretty beefy.
