Rodek 280i goes into protection mode

To start, this is a very old amp from what I know. it's a 160w 2(?) channel amp.
I know very very little about the curcuitry..
I'm only 17 and just want to hook up my sub for my new car...
No matter how it's plugged in, it will go into protection mode.

Even with nothing inputting to the amp after a few seconds it will go into protection mode.
One or two times, i had a single beat come through the sub, however after or during this single bass beat, it goes to protection mode.
I have a good ground, and romote plugged in. I opened it up and there does not seem to be damage of any sort.
However, there maybe be that I cannot see. So I'm stuck. My dad never had it working, he just bought it years ago cause it was a good price.
He did buy it secondhand.

And how would i confirm that? I have a multimeter, but I wouldn't know what I'm looking for :/

If you're not familiar with amplifiers, I'd suggest that you carefully read everything on the basic amp repair page (link in sig line below). Then, if you still need help checking the transistors, post a photo of the inside of the amp.

Before I decide to fix this amp, is it a good enough amp to be worth fixing? or is it something that can be replaced with a superior amp for 50$?

I think you'll have to make that decision. Some people want to learn and want to try to repair their amplifiers. If you're not that type of person and the replacement cost is insignificant to you, then replacement may be a better option.

yes, the circuitry is identical. I found that thread earlier and that's how i found this forum. I just don't really have the knowledge to figure it out.

If you decide to repair it, read the basic repair page (top to bottom) and we'll go from there. You have to understand the basics to prevent having to re-type virtually everything that's on that page.
