I've been looking around, but it is really hard to know how sound quality, reliability, etc stack up among the many different DIY amplifier designs.
Can anyone recommend a circuit design that gives really nice sound quality and fits the following requirements? -Must be reasonably small (6.5" x 3.5" x 5.5" at most, I can redesign circuit boards as needed). -Must be able to do at least 30W RMS on each of 4 channels continuously without overheating or even getting very warm (there is going to be a touchpad right in front of it, so it can't get hot) -Must support 2ohm and 4ohm. -(ideally) Has hardware equalizer |

Hmm.. If you want to design one, try looking for a Soundstream MC140 or a very small Soundstream Reference amplifier schematic. They are very small to start, and with your 3.5" height you can probably re-design the heatsync, and possibly also create some sort of verticle driver board for some of the thru-hole stuff. Most of the components are very common, except for the 2SC3067 which can be found easily on ebay
I love the sound quality of my MC140. Its a 4 chanel, 35w per, and bridgable down to 90wx2. It using TIP102/107 darlington outputs. Most of the SS amps do btw. Last edited by Dr Zeus; 23rd August 2011 at 01:54 PM. |

The MC140 looks like it would work if I could find a circuit diagram (and if the parts still exist). I think it would fit fine if it were on two boards.
I've been searching google all over and so far no luck for the mc140 or any of the reference amps. Is there a good "open source" unit you can think of? |
