Default PPI 5440 Intermittent Output

Hello,

I am currently running a PPI5440, but recently it has started to play up.

Occasionally whilst playing music, the amp just cuts out, initially i thought it was going into thermal cut out as I am running it into 2 ohm loads. But, when it last happened I shot round the back of the car expecting the LED to be showing red. But the amp had shut off, no LED lit at all.

I checked that I had power at the +vs terminal of the amp and did, there was also 12v on the remote switching terminal and a very good ground. I gave the wires a wiggle with no change.

About 5 mins later the thing just burst into life again (scaring the living daylights out of me). This happens quite often when I am listening to something.

Is this a common fault on the PPI5440 or has anyone else had similar problems with one.

Help Please

Rees

When you checked the voltage on the terminals, did you have the black probe on the screw of the terminal block on the amp? If not, when it goes off again, recheck the voltage with the black probe directly on the ground terminal on the amp.

Hi Perry,

I did check the voltage from +ve to -ve terms on the amp, also checked the remote on to the amp -ve term.

Going to pull the amp from the car a bit later and take a look inside.

In a way it looks like i am losing the remote on signal inside the amp somewhere.
