This amp uses RFP70N06's as the power supply fets with 47 ohm gate resistors.
Wondering if the IRF1010EZ's would be better in this amp or just use the orginals since i have to order all new fets for it ?? Next question is it appears the outputs have been replaced at one point in time. The IRF640N's are in it now . Would the IRF640's be better or does it even matter? And the last question is when the guy brought the amp in the transformers and output filter inductors along with the rail caps were still red hot .. Should i replace the rail caps just to be safe or do u think they might have survived since they were to hot to touch when the amp came in?? |

Unless someone has used the non-N in place of the N outputs in several amp and can confirm that they are good, reliable subs, use the originals.
I'd also suggest using the original PS FETs as well. Did the amp fail within a few minutes of him bringing it to you? Was the heatsink hot?

The internal components with significant mass may have simply been hot because they were inside the hot enclosure (and possibly in a hot trunk for most of the day).
Unless the caps have signs of failing, they're likely OK. Most caps are good to at least 85C which is VERY hot to the touch.
