So tonight my highs amp blows.... A OS RF Power 800a4....
Good thing I know a thing or two about repairing them and have a sweet tutorial that walks me through this MESHA bs... I had the amps rear 2 ch wired to 4 midbass drivers... 2-2ohm loads and the front channels wired to a set of Kicker Resolution components. The amp appears to have blown the front P channel output resistors and not certain but probably the transistor as well... I have yet to pull it completely out the remove the bad components.... I would have thought if anything were to have blown it would have been the rear channels being driven into 2 ohms.... why the components??? When they went I was in the process of switching the passive xover from 0db to -1.5db. I did one side then the other... 1 minute later smoke.... I don't get it... maybe something happened when I switched them with them playing? So I have 4 fried resistors in location R166, R149, R266, & R249. Haven't checked the transistors yet.... also a cap in location C3 is popped and has dried up electrolyte on it... Perry do you have a schematic for this amp? Would be nice to save as I've had this amp a LONG time and it well deserves a makeover. ;-) |

I have an 800a4 schematic (PC-3095). Email me if you want it.
babin_perry@yahoo.com In passive crossovers that are 12dB/octave or greater, removing the load from the crossover causes the amp to see what is essentially a dead short at the crossover frequency. I don't know if that's what happened to your amp but it's one possibility.

Could very well have been..... what a kick in the ****... well, like I said. It has served me well, now it is my turn to return the favor. My board is PC-2393D but I'll send you a email for the schematic.
Thanks Perry.... I hope its not too bad and I can get-er up and runnin again soon. It probably didn't help that I had the radio turned about 3/4 of the way when I switched them... Last edited by Deadly Sones; 21st June 2011 at 01:18 AM. |
