In case the pictures don't attach, go to http://farmerjg.shutterfly.com/.

You are trying to link to images on your hard drive. That's not going to work. Use the attachment button instead.

farmerjg, you need to do a search to find the wiring diagram for your vehicle. For example, this page shows the wiring for a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. Or at least find some way to determine which 2 wires are for the tweeter and which 2 aren't on your speaker. Can't really go any further until that info is known. And thanks for following up on the 3 wire conundrum.

It appears that it may have an amp built onto it. To use the amp, you'd have to find a wiring diagram to know which wires were 12v, ground and signal. Using the speaker without the amp may not be possible if the speaker has an impedance below 4 ohms.

A shot of the front will tell if the speaker is 2-way or not. I suspect that it isn't but it's hard to tell if that crescent shaped assembly is covering another set of terminals. I haven't ripped apart car audio in years so I find it strange to think that there might be active speakers in modern vehicles. But it makes sense since so many advertise multiple speaker sound systems that look and sound so basic. It's certainly easier to position bunch of small amps around the car instead of wiring everything from a physically large bank of amplifiers.

I believe you will find that this is indeed an Infinity 2 way speaker with a built in half-doughnut amp. The XO is between the two drivers as is common on auto units. To find them a new location might be tough as each one is designed for a particular location in the vehicle. Now, to find a schematic...

Regarding things being designed for specific locations, if you're referring to the intended acoustic effect, I'm not too worried about that. This is just my truck that I take to and from workout and soccer. I just need better than stock.

In some of my research I'm also finding that what I thought was tweeter wires is likely an amp. I know somebody mentioned a limitation on the impedance. What happens if I just cut into the leads directly off the speaker (the blue and light gray) and bypass the mini-amp? Sorry if that sounds stupid, I'm just a little oblivious to how this stuff works?

That should work unless the amp incorporates equalization as they seem to hint in the literature. That will affect your frequency response.

I thought this was a strange looking car speaker. I wasn't aware active speakers were being used. I always get the cheapo option, then take it out for my own aftermarket rig. If it's active, then I would guess that two wires are for signal and two are for power.
This really seems to be one of those "you had to be there" cases. I'm not blaming the OP, but if he doesn't know what he has it's hard to say what to do with it. I guess the option exists to utilize the amp/speaker as is.
