Found myself disappointed with the Sound Quality of my recent Alpine Head Unit install...and I have no need for FM, CD player, Ipod integration, etc... and I don't need a really fancy head unit with a sexy light show display and a parametric eq
SO... Would like to use my Droid Incredible as my head unit (FLAC and MP3 files mostly, but Incredible also has FM and Pandora Radio) and connecting directly to a power amp or perhaps two amps. --- Does anyone know the max output voltage of the HTC Droid Incredible (at the headphone output)? Is this enough to drive most power amps to max rated output? --- Would I need any special interface (other than a passive volume control) to connect to an amplifier or two? ---- Is there some kind of active pre-amp / volume - that could run on 12v - that someone would recommend (with an emphasis on preserving sound quality)? Thanks for any input. |

What about the head unit did not like. You said sq but what aspect? What is your setup? IMHO you are going from "Bad" to absolute worse.

Nakamichi used to make a car "pre-amp". Plug different sources in and control switching and volume from there.
I have often asked why hasn't someone brought that back out..

It will almost certainly work. The stereo in my truck has an aux input for this very purpose whitch is a nice feature. You need whats called "line level" to drive most amps like 1 to 2 V peek to peek at some low impeadance. You might check the amp specs and see what it says. Or just try it.
