Default D1266 substitute

Can I use this (NTE377) in place of the D1266 in a old Kenwood KAC-921?

Also can I sub the (NTE291) in place of the C2690A-Y in this Hifonics amp?

Thanks.

Also will I need to change any gate resistor values doing so?

I'd suggest that you NEVER use generic replacements in car amps. The biggest problem with generics is that you don't know exactly what you're installing. Slight differences in the electrical parameters can make huge differences in the way they function in a circuit. Using exact replacements and buying from legitimate/authorized distributors (not eBay) is the best way to avoid problems related to replacement parts.

When I first started in this business, I was using the ECG377s in Punch 45s. One group I purchased had a DC current gain of ~3 when it should have been at least 10x higher than that. They caused a lot of time and headaches in troubleshooting. If you ask around, you'll find that no car audio tech uses generics. TV techs use them because there's not as many different parts that will work in a specific circuit. For example, for an output transistor, you may find 10 parts that could be rebadged to work (although not all will work properly). For something like a vertical driver IC in a TV, the rebadged part is very likely the same part as the original because there is only one part that could work in that location.

Digikey has some of the original 1266s. I'd suggest that you use them instead of a generic.

Mouser has the driver;

Thanks for the clarification Perry. I always try to use the exact replacements whenever possible. I just already had a shipment coming from them so was going to add it on.

The newark rep said those were technically "drop in" replacements... guess I'll just order the exact replacements from above.

Thanks again
