Default JL audio 8w6 brought back from dead?

i just repaired a first series 8w6 with a generic sized foam surround. The sub is now back in operation and is sounding very clean.

I am concerned about what effects the generic foam will have on speaker excursion and power handling. only time will tell if the repair will hold.

has anyone had any experience with using generic foams for not exactly the correct application?

I havent, but dont think it will matter too much. If anything it might change so little that your ears might not notice.

Dont get me wrong, if you replace a foam with a butyl, there might be some audio change (if barely).

it is done and installed in a sealed .375 cube. it sounds amazing. i never heard it new but this thing is as clean as any sub i've ever heard. not real low but for a single 8 it plays well above my expectations. now to repair the other 4 :P

Blue can you tell me where you got the foam you are using? I have an older 8w6 that has a tear in the foam and would hate to lose my 3x8w6 setup if I dont have to. :-)
