Reinstall the jumper.

If there is any brown fixative on the board in this area, remove it completely and see if that makes a difference.

If that doesn't solve the problem... Follow the muting circuit back. What's the next component you come to?

it's a 50v 100uf cap, it is located in Q21's place (legs 1,3) directly above the fan plug. i have an 800.4 also and there is nothing in that spot. i removed all of the brown fixative with no result.

Does the trace stop there?

If not, follow it back a bit further. I'd expect it to go to another transistor.

How similar is the layout of power supply drive circuit (and the area around it) in this amp (including circuit board designations) compared to the 800.4?

the trace that i'm following should be at or near ground right? i ask because with everything installed it will be at 12v and voltage is comming throught the 50v 100uf cap that i mentioned. the trace on the other side of that cap (12v) goes directly to pin 12 of the TL494 and a few other components. in the pics you can see the cap that i'm talking about above the fan plug. i bought these broken and it looks as though someone has tampered with them.

I think the cap may be leaking (electrically). Remove that capacitor (the one in the transistor location) and reinstall any other components that you may have out of the circuit at this time. Does the amp work normally without the cap?

so even if i set my meter to capacitance and the cap reads 98 (100uf cap) it may still be faulty?
