I am repairing and modding a couple of my car amps. basically upgrading and changing some crossover functions and gain stages per maufacture updates. All of the components are SMD and I was wondeing since I have to change some resistors in the signal path if there was a prefered brand/type of SMD resistor or just grab some good Vishay metal films with leads and solder them in place. also .. since I was in there.. yank the Ne5532 and replace with LM4562 or OPA 2134..
also modding the crossover circuit (freq range change).. so same questions applies and also what type of caps preferred.. the current ones seem to be a .047uf film cap of some sort.. Thanks Ps I can post schems if that helps |

the gain structure needs changing..... and the input resistors need changing..
this is per manufacture to acomodate a hole in the input gain structure right where my head unit happens to be putting out best signal.. plus I got to cut out a opamp to get to two bias resistors to change them.. so I figured I'm not going to try to unsolder a 5532. I'd just cut and replace.. hence the question about the 4562/2134 |

If the board is designed for SMD resistors, there's no reason not to use them.
I won't offer suggestions for op-amps. The 5532 is a perfectly good op-amp.

yep the 5532 is decent but there are better with lower noise and faster settling time and slew rates.
makes a difference on a amp input section and I got to order sumin anyway.. Yes I can solder SMD resistors in but there are a zillion types of SMD resistors most people wont use carbon film on signal paths (I wont) but I don't know how to tell on SMD what's what. Just trying to get all my stuff ordered at once.. and get my amp working right |

OK. I'll have to leave this to others because, in my mind, most of the things you mentioned are so insignificant that they will NEVER make an audible difference as long as the original components are in good working order.
The gain issue may be valid, however.
