Does it have speakers directly connected to it or does it use an external OEM amplifier?

I'd suggest using an LOC (Line Output Converter). You can get them at virtually any car audio shop.

Additionally, not all line level converter's are the same, they use a transformer to step the signal down, depending on the transformer's properties and quality, your signal range could be cliped to a quite narrow range, seeing as how most of the transformer's were originally built for just plain power duties.

I recommend a quality line converter. AudioControl LC6 Line out converter for amplifier - eBay (item 320641027518 end time Jan-19-11 12:19:50 PST)

I own one of these for testing in random cars, it has a great signal range, and auto turn on when it detects a offset in the line level http://cgi.ebay.com/MEMPHIS-6-CHANNE...item4cf3d81cad
