Default heathkit IM-58 howto?

How do I use this thing Perry? Mine is either broken or I'm stupid. Both are very likely!

I had one of these -- Helps to get the manual from www.w7fg.com Basically you notch the fundamental frequency, then measure everything which is left. You should be able to measure THD down into the range of 0.007% or so.

I've never used that distortion analyzer but in general you...

drive a test tone into an amplifier
set the reference level for the output of the amplifier
tune the analyzer's filter to the precise frequency of the test tone
read the distortion from the residual left after the test tone is filtered out

They're not very useful. I have an HP analyzer but never use it. A good sound card and software make a better analyzer (as far as cost is concerned).

Thanks guys! I kinda thought it was a notch filter, but wasn't sure whether it generated it's own tone or not.
