we all heard about using an inverter to power the processor and also heard about the noise that comes along with it....
then I read about the DSPower. but it isn't as fun as building my own from scratch. ![]() so when I got my own DCX2496, I followed the DSPower concept and I made my own powersupply: ![]() and it worked very well (and noise free) for more than a year before the electros popped due to the heat of the linear regulators and wiped out the memory. ![]() after fixing the supply, I always felt something's going to give sooner or later down the road so something has to be done. I read about this page sometime ago: DC to DC converters and it popped in my mind. use the original powersupply and power it off ~300VDC. powersupply provides electrical isolation and voltage regulation. plus, supply timing is already what the manufacturer wanted. looking around for suitable components in my junk box wasn't too successful so I got lazy. another idea came to my mind.... inverters have become really cheap these days and have DC to DC converters inside and you get a nice alu case/heatsink at the same time! also, thermal, under/over voltage protection is built in. so I bought a cheap ($9) 100W chinese inverter and tore it apart when I got home. (sorry no pics. couldn't find the camera. it's boring anyway. just an inverter pcb with some parts removed )replaced dodgy parts like cheap electros on main supply lines. added a power switching relay. removed the 60Hz H-Bridge and oscillator/mosfet drivers. what's left is a 12V to 300V DC to DC converter. added a nice input power terminal block and IEC power connector to plug to the DCX. reinstalled the original DCX powersupply, plugged it in and it works!!! still the same noiseless performance as before and I have a bunch of extra parts to add to the junk box. ![]() the DCX runs cool too. just like how it did if run at home on AC power. ![]() I am the designer of the DSPower. We've sold quite a lot of them over the past few years (over 100!) and have had one return/warranty repair due to faulty soldering (first run, hand soldered). None of them, to my knowledge, have ever popped a capacitor. Great job on it, DJQuan. I admire your tenacity. I'm not upset that you copied it, but please don't sell it.

Don't worry, I won't be selling it as it is just a hobby.
![]() The modded inverter PS is still working fine to this day even if it is used daily ever since it was installed. works pretty well too, nice thing about it, when testing the DCX on the bench, you don't need a 12V PS. |

Maybe this is another way.
DCX power supply is +15 -15 +9v DG AG +5v +3.3v. DAC is AK4393, have v out, so you can feed amp from this via capacitor. You can power DCX via DC smps, to provide +-15v, and +9v via transistor regulator, and +5v, 3.3 v via voltage regulator, lm78 series. You have improvement in sound....sory my bad english.... |
