So the amp is up and running and everything appears to be working well. I'm quite pleased. Not necessarily because the amp is working, but more of the fact that I've learned a great deal here. The amp isn't all that important to me, but the experience is gold! Perry, thanks a million for all of your help. I have a stack of amps in need of repair so I'm sure I'll be back with some more questions.
As for the amp: I found that the dead channel, well, wasn't dead at all. It was my own inexperience (noob) mistake for probing the + terminal of the right channel when I should have probed the - term all along. Next up: Once I probed the gates of the output transistors, as apposed to the speaker terminals, I could easily see the notch distortion from improper biasing. Finally: I checked the sub channel, again, for the odd clipping issue, but for reasons unknown the problem seemed to have gone away. The channel clips evenly on the top and bottom half of the waveform. Set the bias and dc offset. Amp sounds great and doesn't overheat....so far so good! |
