I just started learning about amplifiers. Could i rid 2 wires to run them externally and measure the rail voltage with dmm or small digital gauge to make sure amp is not being overworked ?

Knowing the rail voltage won't help much. Depending on the battery voltage and the load on the amp (among other things), the rail voltage can vary quite a bit. If the amp isn't overheating or going into protect and it's not driving a load less than its lowest rated load impedance, it's not being overworked.
