Default 6.5" sub opinions for the car... freeair most likely

I'm thinking of scrapping my idea of building two enclosures hidden in the rear side panels of my car and just using the stock 6.5" locations in the rear deck for subs. I sold the phd2 for way too little and now have the two ppia600.2's running the four mids/highs. The plan is to run the four mids/highs on one amp @ two ohms stereo high passed and run the two rear deck subs @ four ohm mono or two ohm stereo on the other amp. I want to load the sub amp down so it will be easier to match volume levels of sub to mids even though most 6.5 subs seem to not have high power capability. I'd like something that won't have problems with running free air. I'm actually thinking of running the kicker shallow subs...

I was checking crutchfield's site and they had a utopia 5" sub..... for $480! Sorry, there is no way a 5" sub is going to produce $480 worth of quality bass. Unbelievable! I was also checking out elemental design's 6.5. Apparently there are only a few quality companies that make 6.5" I have access to. I kind of shy away from the cdt's because of the couple of sets I installed for customers.... looked like they were built in a basement for some reason. To be fair I haven't seen or heard enough of their stuff to form a good opinion though.

Yeah, a 5"? Just not going to happen. It might be a great speaker and may be worth $500 in midbass/midrange, but not $500 worth of subwoofer.

This woofer seems like the best option.
DIYCable.com : Intro » Home » Exodus Subwoofers »
although it may be too big to fit under rear deck.

CSS now has the SDX7 but I wasn't aware someone else had picked up the old Extremis.

I lamented awhile back about losing the Extremis as an available option, and someone said they were being produced by another company. It could be that the SDX7 is the result.

I'll do a forum search to clarify that post from memory!

Those Exodus look great, and the Mach5 and GR woofers mentioned in the SEAS midbass thread look nice, too.

I think I'd be inclined to use four of them, given the amp ppi is going to be using.
