Default Indash unit not putting out sound

Well basically i have a off brand double din indash unit. Its touch screen gps and all that good stuff. I bought it broken and repaired the touchscreen, ribon. Now when i turned it on and installed it in the car I get no sound output at all. I guessing it may be a output transistor/mosfet but i am not sure. I have no experience with these things but simple trying to learn so thats why im trying to tackle this project myself and not by a professional. Anyway to test to see whats the problem is. I opened it up and it seemed as if a mosfet was replaced inside it already because the solder points on a specific mosfet was completely different from the other ones. Any help appreciated.

Do the RCA outputs produce audio?

Depending on the vehicle, it could have a factory amplifier that is not being turned on. Have you tried a known good speaker connected to one of the speaker wires of the deck?

Ok so i connected the rca's and still had no sound output at all. However I went ahead and carefully examined each transistor and noticed that one was bad. The housing was partially cracked and had a huge bulge in it. I desoldered it and the part number on it is a bd438. Anyone know where i can find a replacement? I searched RadioShack site but it returned nothing when I searched "BD438". Any alternative to it on there site or anywhere else?

Does this look like what you are looking for?

Just change the xx to tt.

Digikey probably also has similar components as well.

If you have one of these places in your city, they have a good selection of electronic components, supplies and test equipment.

If you check your yellow pages, you may be able to find a local electronics wholesale that your local repair shops buy from. A helpful repair shop might also be able to tell you which places to check out in your area. In Winnipeg there is a little strip mall based store called Tip Top Electronics which doesn't look like much until you go inside. Excellent selection and pricing, but you would never know it until you checked it out. Many local pro repair shops go there for components from them. Maybe there is something similar in your neck of the woods.
