Can I replace the 6 ss264 with 4 irf540n or irf540? If not, what is the best substitute?

Perry Babin 16th December 2009 04:09 PM

For the power supply, an IRFZ44 would be a better sub than the IRF540.

Should I use 4 or 6? It seems with the much higher current rating I could use 4.

Perry Babin 16th December 2009 06:51 PM

Use 6.

ok thanks!

Do I replace the BUK455 outputs with IRF540?

Perry Babin 17th December 2009 11:17 PM

The IRF540 is rated for less current but is likely a good sub. If you're ordering the FETs from Mouser, order the IRF540A.

I have some IRF540Ns. Those seem to be working. However, I see the BUK455 is rated at only (100A) 18A@100* while the IRF540 is rated 20A@100*.

This is the datasheet I referenced. Maybe the FETs are not the same. You didn't have the -100a in the previous post.

The 540n is rated for 33 amps. The 540 is rated for 28 amps. I've seen the 540n do some strange things in the later Rockford amps so I recommend against using them (for people who have to order parts) but if they're working OK in your amp, they should be reliable.

That's the problem with these old amps I am finding... reliable datasheets are hard to find. Thanks!
