I searched on google and saw lots of posts here relating to FIRST GEN mtx 500d troubles. I really like this amp because of its size and power output.
I just bought one off ebay, but it has an issue. The sub will play fine for a minute, and then all of a sudden, the cone will just stick out all the way and be held at full excursion, as if you put a 9v battery to the terminals. Then it will go back to playing, etc. And the coil starts to smell.. needless to say its not hooked up anymore. Almost as if its giving the sub straight DC. Anyone know if this is easily fixable or who might fix it? MTX used to completely re-board these for 55 dollars, but they dont have parts anymore. I dont have the best electronic repair skills.... It looks fine inside. Nothing looks burned. Should I perhaps start a dispute with paypal? Since this guy never said it was blown? Anyone wanna buy this one and fix it if you can do it easy and cheap? |

1st: paypal gives a sh.. about what you bought ! They didnīt return any money to me although police started investigation on the seller. He did it on purpose causing aprox. 20000 Dollars in one week. All I can say : "thanks for the protection" guys. Paypal one and only response was " if we cannot get the money , you wont see any!".
About your amp problem. Itīs not always the amp causing trouble. Do you have an aftermarket head unit ore a stock head unit using an adapter to connect the amp to the head unit ? My cousin has a Peugeot with a stock radio , uses a big digital amp. sometimes the amp makes real ugly noise and when I first heard that sound I thought the woofer will be a pyle of ashes in a few seconds. he then told me that sometimes happens when he plays the msuic louder and turns the msuic down. With his old alpine head unit he never had those problems. |

What happens if you turn down the gain when it sticks? If you are going to sell it how much, I don't need another sub amp really. I just like to work on them. I already have a 421D and 251D, might be nice to add to the collection.

Unless you just could care less about your speakers, do not connect them and try adjusting the gain control when it fails.
