IRFZ44's in orion 250

I am thinking of using IRFz44's in the power supply in a 2nd gen 250 instead of 80n06's. Are they ok to use? Do I need to change the gate resistors?

They probably have 10 ohm gate resistors. If so, you don't need to change them. The Z44s are rated for significantly less current than the 80N06.

Do you know if the 80N06s are the original parts?

No it had 60n06's but I have used the 80n06's in the past for replacements. I have a 100 z44's sitting here and I want to use them for something...

If it's your amp, you could use the Z44s. If it's for a paying customer, I'd use the original or something better.

Unless you're going to run it into the lowest rated ohm load, it probably won't make a difference.

Alright thanks Perry. I know you recommend IRF3205's but I cant find them on the cheap. The local place here charges a little over $3 a piece for them and they don't give quantity discounts.
It is a customers and I would Like to use the 3205 so where can I find them the cheapest?

Ive also found that allied electronics has them for a lil cheaper. Its one of the companies i use for parts orders hope this helps

I think that's where I got my 100pcs of Z44's and 50 of 3205's. bought a lot so I don't have to deal with the local store that sells me either at a rather high price or sells broken parts as new.
