Hi Everyone, I have an old Ford car radio that has a 6V positive ground vibrator that does not work. I've been told that these can be refurbished? If this is true does anyone know how to go about doing so? I'd appreciate any input or suggestions. Thanks! Steve

I've heard that some of them had contacts that would get dirty. If so, you may be able to clean them. Use something like notebook/printer paper saturated with contact cleaner. Slip the paper between the contacts. Hold the contacts together and pull the paper out of the contacts (while still holding pressure on the contacts).

Yes, I have "refurbished" old vibrators many times.
The usual fault is dirty or welded contacts, sometimes a loose or broken wire. If the contacts are dirty, avoid using abrasives if possible. (they will work but shorten life considerably) Andy

Thanks for your replies guys.
I've taken the vibrator out of its case. The contacts on either side are not welded together so I guess the contacts are dirty. Is it just the contacts on either side that need to be cleaned? Thanks again! |
