quick question..
On my cd player I pressed the 'CDS' button on my alpine 7909 when playing a cd. What exactly does it do ? Supposedly it blocks out some tone and balance circuits on the player for a quieter sound...thats what the manual says. |

According to your information, it bypasses the tone controls and maybe the balance/fader. The spec sheet I have doesn't go into detail, and it's been too many years since my one and only 7909 experience. Removing any un-needed active stages or impedances from the signal path will potentially yield a less colored sound. Have you made any plans for your old-school system?
