Talked to a guy and he said he uses piezo tweeters and have good luck with them with a crossed over mid range in the door. do piezo tweets need a crossover?

IMO, piezotweets have an undeserved reputation as poor performers. With the right equalization and zobel networks, they can be quite good, though the crossover point should be higher than normal dynamic tweeters. If you just want to experiment without a lot of fussy design work, try putting a low value power resistor in parallel with it, say 6 ohms, and treating it as a 6 ohm load. Use a proper crossover so you don't dissipate a lot of power in the resistor.

Agreed. they are good from about 4-5,000 Hz and up with a power resistor. great for a cheap add on to factory speakers that don't have tweeters or have those cheezy wizzer cones. better in my opinion if you mount them high on the doors or on the dash. without a rsistor they can be way too harsh and bright IMHO. Experiment away they are cheeeeeaaap!! |
