Subwoofer problems

Hello, my car was recently broken into and destroyed.

I have my sub-woofer out of the car now and want to know if it is possible setting up a car sub-woofer in a home audio system?

The power from a car battery is only 12v ? The Sub has a built in amplifier and is 20A , if that helps.

You can run it on a 12v power supply, like used in testing auto equipment or running ham radios/etc. It is likely it will not take full 20A at max output...depends on how loud you plan on running it how large a power supply you need. The big ones are expensive to by new, like over 20A. Some people recommend the pyramid brand for a good price and they seem to work fine, if you can find them there. Most are actually 13.5-14v for auto power. Or you can try to run an old PC power supply or something like that. The wall warts do not put out that much power.

Or get an old PC power supply and use the 12v rail. Usually they are good for 20-30 A.

The other option is to buy a supply from someone like mpja.com or jameco.com. I'd recommend a switching supply. Sometimes MPJA has great sales.

I have a larger one out of a server, but I can't seem to figure out how to find the remote to turn it on.

Thanks I can try it but this was a compaq server, and the brilliant people they are...they have proprietary stuff that is not standard. It was new and we put a triple redundant supply in place of this.

What about a simple transformer charger like for a cordless drill or for a Power Wheels (kids car thing). Are there any Radio Shacks over there?<---not intending to sound like a smart a$$

It came with the big one I have, we took it out and put a triple one in the server....I ended up with this one. Is over twice the size of a normal one, but I don't know amps of it. Ton of wires too.
