Ok people, I used a 40 fuse, but the light on my amp is dim. Could that be because I need a larger fuse?

No the 40 amp fuse is not the reason the light on your amp is dim. Does the amp work?

Agu fuses are great, it is the fuse holders manufactured by the car audio companies that suck. The fuses were not designed to be in a sealed enclosure. If the fuse holder allows heat to escape from the fuse, they are great.

they are OK for small systems pulling less than 60 amps.

if the manufactures came up with a hold that actually had a real clamp for them than they would be mediocre...the "clamps" on the fuse holders are very weak and provide weak contact points

My 5ga kit came with a maxi fuse 100a. It seems ok so far. I used to use atc 30a on battery, or two. I used the covered outdoor holders because they corroded otherwise. I still had to pack the holder with dielectric grease and then they would hold up pretty well. That reminds me I should put some in this 100a. That stuff works great on lots of things like trailer plugs and ignition systems.
