With an enclosure like this, you really should have heavy chain or cable connecting the enclosure to the vehicle. You should use a minimum of 3/8" bolts and large washers. The attachment points to the box should be centered on the sides. The cable/chain should go to a point several feet behind the enclosure. Two restraints on each side (one near the top and one near the bottom) would be better.

If you get into a collision, the enclosure will crush anyone in the front seat.

Mounting some reinforced flanges to the boxes with rings for attaching the rear seat belts would probably do a good enough job if the box is solid enough. You'd have to calculate the total weight of the box with woofers to see if it would exceed the total passengers' weight limits for the belts though. Let us know what you get after sealing it off, but I doubt using cardboard will hold enough spl in the front to make a difference that you could percieve.

I was talking to someone who gained 1.2dB using cardboard and duct tape, its only a fairly small area being covered, and is pretty solid.

its not about perceiving the difference, its about measuring the difference.

I understand that sealing it is for measuring the difference but if thats the case then..

Are you actually going to go and get it measured with cardboard and duct tape? Why not just seal it once with something stiff enough to maintain as much pressure as possible?
If not, then do you own equipment accurate enough to measure the difference with and without the cardboard?

What was your measured difference? Did you have a chance to try yet? Also, what are you using to measure the spl and where is your loudest measured location for the mic?

i haven't measured it with the cardboard yet, its 34degrees celcius outside at the moment.

I'm using a termlab SPL meter, and I'm putting it in the same location, on the windscreen, about 6inches up from the dash, and 12inches from the passenger side, same as they do in competitions.
