How would a good sub box with that lined in it sound. Like the egg crate design pattern. would it break up the sound waves?

The shape of the surface of the foam will have no effect in a subwoofer box, The wavelengths are simply too long to be affected by it.

That kind of stuff works in the midrange, unless you have some kind of resonance in your sub box....and then it would not be a good box if you did. Loose poly works the best to slightly enlarge the box and dampen it. $2 at walmart for a bag. All those loose fibers are said to slow down the waves as they travel though them. The only time I bother is with a small sealed box, it helps a little. I have tried it in ported and sometimes it helps. Have seen smaller factory kicker ported stuffed full of it except the port itself. It will tend to take out the higher sub and give lower Hz....but not that much.
