I'm looking at buying a front stage to install in a '98 Monte Carlo LS. What I'm looking at is this:

I already have a Pioneer GM4000F (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069933_77659852,00.html) and an MTX 251D (http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/archive/2004amps/thunder251D.cfm).
What I would like to do is replace the front stage with the Dayton and Audax speakers. I would like to use the Pioneer amp to power all for drivers on a separate channel after sending the signal through the Clarion crossover.
I have a few questions though:
Will the Dayton mid fit without much modification to the door panel in a '98 Monte Carlo? The stock speakers are 5 1/4", but since Dayton doesn't have a 5 1/4" driver in the RS line, the 6" is the closest fit. However, since some type of mounting ring would be needed anyway to fit the 6" driver, I was hoping the RS180 would still fit without having to do any major modifications to the door panels.
Next, would anybody have a better recommendation for a tweeter? The Audax was one of a few drivers which look small enough to work in a car, yet have published data on Parts Express (I was using the trial version of LspCAD and the frequency data to see how the drivers would work together). I'm not sold on any tweeter, but it looked good from the data I had available.
Next, I don't have money yet for a sub, so I would like the RS180's to add some bass response, however, since I do plan on adding a sub some day, is the midrange response of the RS180 adequate, or would the RS150 perform better while also being an easier fit into the door?
Lastly, I haven't sold myself on needing a new head unit. I like the idea of leaving a stock look to the car, so a flashy head unit won't fit in too well. Once again, money also plays a part, and a new head unit is expensive for what little added feature I would earn from the purchase. Did you ever go through with this? i'm not sure why no one replied? i noticed that the dayton mids you linked to were 7" so it may be difficult to fit them if you had 5 1/4's stock. an mdf baffle may do the trick but you would need to check all around for clearance issues. the tweeter you linked too was an 8ohm tweeter. it may work ok but have lower output than a 4ohm tweeter that is normally used in a car.

When you go to do it my advice is to get the best HU you can, get used even ebay is full of them....just try to be careful about the seller. Then do the same for your front speakers if they are coax, comps, or DIY though DIY drivers may be cheaper depending on how you use them. Those things will control the quality of your sound more than anything. If out of money get a good amp for that, then the cheapest used sub amp and whatever subs to get you on the road....replace those later.
