I've been fairly keen to get a remote control setup working on the DAM1021 but have been holding off doing so as the next firmware is likely to make it easier to hook up a microcontroller.
My goal with the DAM is to have it controllable using Roomie Remote over a wired IR connection, rather than IR. This complicates things slightly as the wired IR contains the modulation that a hardware IR RX modules removes, meaning the signal needs to be demodulated prior to decoding. Anyway that project is on hold until the next firmware is released.
In there interim, I've started working on using Roomie Remote and it's companion OS X component Roomie Agent as a stop gap.
Roomie Agent allows Roomie Remote to perform basic OS level tasks including running applescripts, so I'm looking at taking this route. I'm sure there are other ways but this seems to be promising and reasonably straight forward.
I'm using SerialPort X scripting addition (...
