Trapped In Amber And Other Tragedies

Saturday, yesterday, a beautiful fall day here in my corner of the globe has me thinking about my Stratocaster and how it would be a nice day to spritz on some more finish. Last time was supposed to be the final coats but on close inspection I see that the coverage was still not perfect. I decided to wet sand again and give a few extra "smoothing" coats.
Wet sanding is time consuming and tedious, dirty, finger-wrinkling messy work but I persevere and it's ready for spraying. One of the things I see while sanding is a small fly embedded in the clearcoat:

Unlucky fool! Character for the piece, I think. Fossilized remains add to the value.

To spray, I use an old speaker box sitting behind my workshop as a stand and the guitar body is projecting out past this and counterbalanced with a bucket that has a brick in it. The bucket hangs by it's handle from the stick that is in place of the neck that is screwed to the body. If this sounds flaky, it's because it is.
Sometimes I'm too lazy for my own good and I'm too stupid to learn from my own mistakes - long story short, the guitar falls. Falls to the concrete when my back was turned.

Well, the Youtube video of the year award would have went to who ever was lucky enough to catch my reaction on camera yesterday. I dare you to think of an obscene word that I didn't say, my head and face are still sore from slapping myself. I think I broke my big toe kicking that old speaker around my back yard...

After steaming about this for a while I do what I do best - move on. Make repairs:

Mix up some colour and squirt it on followed by a few coats of tinted clear (deja vu?).
Once again, it will need to cure for a week or two before I can put the final coats of clear on.
Ah, DIY! How would I have fun without it?

    D'oh!
It almost hurts watching the pics! Try to see it the positive way: More character for the piece! Give her a name!

I feel your pain. I did just about the same, last time I was painting a bicycle frame.

I look back at it with a smile though, most people still consider me a respectable person, since they didn't hear what I was yelling
