It's in the Script ...

Da·da or da·da (dädä)

A European artistic and literary movement (1916-1923) that flouted conventional aesthetic and cultural values by producing works marked by nonsense, travesty, and incongruity.

from here -

Dadaistic - definition of Dadaistic by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

and theres this guy -

a recent portrayal of 'The Villain' crushing an Innocent,

has caused much excitement. (and excrement)

Project Dilemas

Posted 19th February 2010 at 05:41 PM by kevinkr
Updated 19th February 2010 at 05:50 PM by kevinkr

Isn't it odd how sometimes the things you intend to do first end up being the last things you actually get done? Or am I the only one with this problem??

I always have a few projects on the back burner, and few that are supposed to high priority and sometimes one or two that just appear because of an unforseen opportunity or a seemingly good idea.

In order of supposed priority I have been working on a new GM70 based SE amp design, an acrylic plinth TT, a pair of Half Chili Changs, and quite unexpectedly an FFT based audio measurement set up.

The turntable and the GM70 are more or less stalled. I need to purchase a mini-lathe, and a good metal cutting blade.

On the GM70 despite designing a choke coupled driver stage that really performs well I am still waffling over whether I want to use IT coupling instead. And the kicker is I need the above tools to fabricate the chassis for these amplifiers which ultimately will be 4 chassis...

Past and Present Reflections

Posted 17th February 2010 at 01:17 PM by smoketest

[originally written in May 2009]

Hello, my name is Brian and I’m a user. A Magnepan user. I, like perhaps many of you, have a mixed relationship with my Maggies. This is, in a way, a sad story of more than 20 years of listening dissatisfaction. At least until recently, but before we discuss that please indulge me the time to bore you with some history.

Consider your roaring twenties, or at least consider mine. In the early 1980s I was fortunate enough to bag a full set of precut particle board for a pair of Speakerlab K-Horn woofers. I added a 15 inch woofer, a full width Altec horn mid-range, a Heil tweeter, a home brew cross-over network and our little 2 bedroom house in West Palm Beach truly did roar. In fact our poor neighbor across the street had to walk over and ask us to turn it down a couple of times. With a borrowed Audio Research D-75A and a home made tube only pre-amp, it sounded like a rock concert.

After moving those behemoth speakers...

Second F5 without thermal compensation or current limiting.

Okay, got the 'new' cviller F5 boards in.
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/group...-new-post.html

They look great. I built this one up with Caddock Source and feedback resistors, since the PCB had the fit for them. (These are an upgrade to standard kit at tech-diy.com)

I hacksawed the boards down to a smaller size so they would fit more comfortably in my 13 X 8 heatsinks.

The flavor of choice this time is metal film 1/4 watt PRP's for signal and Caddock MP-930 .5R for R11,12 source resistors, 10R MP-915 JFet Source resistors and 50R MP-915 for Feedback resistors R5-R6.

The heatsinks on the Source resistors are way oversized, but they do get a little warm.

I have it currently biased at .75v for 1.5amps class A idle. The sink temp at room 22c is 48c.

Sound comparison
I have not got a lot of time on these to compare to the standard design, and the previous Takman/Kiwame...
