what's the difference? HPA-nxV300 & HPA-nxV300se

Hi PCSL999

The main difference with the nxv300 and nxv300se is the output devices.
The nxV300 uses Toshiba 2SK1530 and 2SJ201 devices and the nxV300se uses
the IRFP240 and IRFP9240 devices.
The latter have a higher Gate Threshold voltage and therefore drop a bit of voltage across them this translates into a little less power output compared to the Toshiba devices and the more obvious difference is that the nxV300 as fully assembled and tested. The 300se require some assembly and testing as well as setup.

I hope this helps :)

Please look the power supply photo... is it correct?...
i like to 1 power supply for 2 x HPA-nxV300
Transformer 230V > 2 x 50Vac... hom many amp?
Bridge Rectifiers.... min. ? amp?
100V 47000uf x 2 Aluminum Capacitors (no 80V cap. on RS online...)

Hi

Yes the PSU schematic is correct and could put two nxv300 module on that supply no problems. I would use a 25 amp bridge min and I would suggest
using a mains current surge limiter like my Limiter-one.
the turn on surge would be very high with 47kuf caps.

I Hope this helps.

1. Any Output protection of HPA-nxV300? if i short output + & -...

2. I saw there have input cap on RCA... if i am XLR input, need input cap?

3. My input are ... no preamp...
Computer > Echo Gina3G XLR > HPA-nxV300
Computer > Echo Gina3G > DAC XLR > HPA-nxV300

Echo Gina3G XLR > Nominal Output Level: +4dBu or –10dBV & Maximum Output Level: +17.5dBu
DAC XLR > 0V ~ 4.0V

Will HPA-nxV300 work on my configuration?

Hi

The nxv300 has no short circuit protection other than Zener Gate protection.
In this case it would just blow the supply fuses if you shorted the output at full power, which should be a vey rare event in any case.

The nxv300 is not supplied with any input caps.
Most people I find like to supply their owninput capacitors.

You echo sound card will work just fine with the nxV300 in balanced mode or
using the inputs in Un-balanced mode.

nxv300 ~
Signal to Noise Ratio -120dB
THD+N - Typically 0.005%
Dampening Factor At 100hz 8ohm = 900
Dampening Factor At 1khz 8ohm = 750
Dampening Factor At 10khz 8ohm = 250

Cambridge Audio Azur 840W ~
Damping factor: >125 at 1 kHz
Signal to Noise Ratio: >90 dB (unweighed)
THD (unweighted): <0.001% 1kHz, <0.005% 20Hz - 20kHz

NAD C 275BEE ~
Rated distortion (THD 20Hz-20kHz) <0.008 % (ref. 20 Hz - 20 kHz)
Damping factor >180 (ref. 8 O, 50 Hz and 1 kHz)
Signal to noise ratio, A-weighted, 1W > 102 dB (A-weighted, ref. 1 W), rated power > 123 dB (A-weighted, ref. 150 W)

ADCOM GFA-555SE ~
THD 0.040%
SNR 20Hz > 0.004 ~ 0.005%, 1kHz > 0.003 ~ 0.004%, 20kHz > 0.010 ~ 0.025%

Those amp. price USD1200+...
Most A/B amp THD around 0.0x% SNR -9x ~ -10xdB; nxv300 really have very very good in SNR & THD...

Why Dampening Factor so higher than other?

Do you offer the nxV300se kit with the Toshiba 2SK1530 and 2SJ201 devices? Why would I not want to use these?

Hi Bill

One of the main reasons I offer the nxV200se as a part assembled kit is to cut cost of purchase and supplying these kits with IRFP devices is part of that.
The Toshiba devices cost quite a bit more than the IRFP devices and for that reason are only supplied with the fully assembled amp module.

Of course there is nothing stopping you purchasing the nxv200se kit and supplying your own Toshiba devices.
If you want to do that I can change the Vbe bias to suit the toshiba devices,
If that would help :)

Thanks for quick reply.

I wanted to make sure I wouldn't need special instruments or encounter difficulties biasing and tuning the circuits.

Regards.

Hi

Coud you please inform how is the Limiter One connected. Is is necessary any dedicated transformer for 30 Vac? Is it connected to the power switch?

In advance thanks for clarification

Hi JC

The limiter requires at least 25vac or greater secondary winding,
this can be taken from the secondary windings powering the power
amplifier or it can be powered from its own dedicated transformer.

Cheers

Anthony
