Peter,
I made a 3878 kit using two 160va Avel transformers to very good effect. I know you prefer 300va transformers. I may upgrade my set up in the future, and I would be interested to know what sonic benefits you have noticed by going up the va ratings? My speakers are vmps 626 (ribbon hybrids with 8 ohm nominal I and 5.6 minimum).

I can't comment on 160VA transformers, as I never used such small units, although I don't see any problem with using them.
With going up with VA rating from 300VA to 500VA, the sound seem to have more substance in bottom end, but transparency and immediacy of the sound seemed to be a bit compromised.
