Digital amp aims at SE crowd Aimed at aficionados of the High-sensitivity horn and classic dual-concentric speakers, a new digital amplifier is in development which claims to preserve the sonic virtues of low-power valve amplification. Promising no less performance than some of the finest single-ended valve amplifiers, the classT (ie, Tripath) design also advertises ultra-fast transient response without compromising either stereo imaging or LF control. No name has been given to this amplifier product as yet, nor any actual specification published of its technical performance. A price has not been fixed either, but it is expected that the low-power design will cost around £800. Said the mysterious product's promoter Mr C Beckwith: 'the sheer enjoyment of various record i ngs -analogue replay or digital, old or new-during the auditions has proved the certainty of this amplifier's ability to deliver the highest standards of reproduction with high-efficiency speakers.'
