vinyl engine

That should be what you're looking for. It's a decent deck, especially at that price.

I greased one of these up for my father-in-law, and put a Sumiko Oyster on it. They have them sans box at the Needledoctor in Dinkytown for ~$30. It was a little fat with the bass, but it was a doable combo.

Otherwise the Grado Black is always a good budget recommendation.

btw: where in mn are you?

american society of metals? i am a matsci engineering grad student, but i've never been.

I work right near the needledoctor, so I'm in way more than I should be. It's a tiny shop that's really geared for internet sales, but the people there are extremely helpful.

Is the 1249 an idler wheel deck? You may have hum problems with a grado near the big motor if it is.
I have a 1229 and it's pretty happy with an ortofon OM20, a lot of people like shure carts with them as well.

I have a dual1019 that I purchased in 1970 and it still works well. I use it with a Grado. I also purchased a pair of B302A Bozaks at the same time. Quite a sweet combonation at the time.
