Hi, I have just purchased a second hand Thorens TD 160 Super, Rega RB300 and Audio Technica AT31 MC cartridge for few pounds. The question is I have just returned to HIFI after about 20 year break and I have never owned a MC cartrige before. Will this work on my current amplifier which has MM input or do I need a seperate phono stage to get the best from this type of cartridge?

You will need an extra gain stage. That is, step-up transformers or an MC headamp between the cart and your existing phono inputs.

I like the Lundahl stepup tranny kit from K&K. Otherwise I will soon have an active JFET based headamp in kit form. But you gotta wait a month or two. There is also the schematic from M. Leach you can try to dig up.
