Default modifying hadcock tube length?

greeting ladies and gentlemen, I have one of the early hadcock 228 and am thinking of the idea of replacing the armtube(not the whole arm just the tube) just wondering if anyone has been able to persuade a tube to come away from the pivot housing. How is it attached, glue? I want to replace with a stainless steel tube and go with the lomger length to same spec as the 242.Also current thought dictates that the tonearm weight should be rigidly mounted to the stub but my arm has the old hadcock system of decoupling to a degree with the threaded knob adjustable weight unlike the new grub screw wiggle and set weight.Any adeas on how to adress this issue. Any help greatly appreciated

peace and goodwill fergs
