I've got this classic Beyer M55 microphone and would like to wire it correctly to the mic input of the Philips EL6431.
Microphone comes with three wires and a shielding, amplifier mic input has the three plugs, hot, cold and ground. Full schematic of EL6431 here. I have no data on the M55 except this picture: http://users.pandora.be/oldmicrophon...beyer_m55.html /Hugo |

IIRC, the M55 had a specific PSU/pre, so I would imagine that the fourth pin is for HT.

That was quick. I'll wire the hot to hot and see how far I get with grounding the other pins.

Hello,
iv'e just picked up an old m55 and want to rewire it with a male xlr connector to replace the 3 pin din. It is identical as the picture above with a three core cable plus a shield. How should I wire this to the xlr ? Other mics I have wired have used to a two core plus shield. Do I need to bridge the pins, or wire the shield somewhere else? Any help would be greatly appreciated as would any opinions on the m55 and its uses. Many thanks. |

Oldamps, welcome.
Honestly, I forgot. I played around with the wires till I found the good combination. Can't be that hard with only three pins. ![]() /Hugo |

Had a mess about with the wires and all is working now and sounding nice!
Realised that connecting either the blue or white wire to xlr pin 2 decides the hi or low impedance, the other is not used. White lo, blue hi. cheers |

I had a quick listen to the M55 last time and believe it must have been a reporters microphone. Small, robust, handy and a perfect 'Hi-Fi' quality for AM broadcasts.
![]() I could be wrong of course. -=Hugo=- |
