Default replacement turntable belt

Guys,

My neighbour has an old Thorn belt drive turntable which he wants to resurrect after many years of disuse - I got the job....
The only problem with it is that the belt seems to have stretched,
so it won't play at the correct speed.
Does anyone know of a souce for replacement belts, preferably in Australia,
or have any other hints as to how I could solve the problem?

Cheers,
Pete McK

Default you may try...

.. using a substitute material while you're waiting for a replacement belt to arrive (there's a guy on eGay who sells them).

i've had great luck with using video-tape tape, cassette-tape, fishing string etc. mostly the profile of the pulley will determine which ones you can use.

good luck!

Do you mean Thorn-EMI or Thorens?

Pete, take the platter with you to WES Components, Ashfield.
They have just about any belt you could want.

Default Replacement belt

Thanks for the replies guys,
I'll give WES components a try.

Yes Dave, that's Thorn unfortunately; I'd much prefer a Thorens...

Cheers,
