I have an MF X10D between my pre and power amp and one of the tubes has gone down(I have had it for about 6 years). Despite searching the net I cannot find the spec on the tubes used and they arent maked.
Anyone know where I might be able to source them in Europe. I read somewhere that a useful improvement could be made to its sound if audio spec tubes are used instead of military spec. Any comments? |

Hi,
The X10D uses a ECC88/6DJ8 per channel. You could use the professional equivalents instead but I can not predict any sonic improvement if any: E188CC/7308 or E88CC/6922/Cca are equivalent with the sole difference for the E188CC being very low noise. Ask your supplier for a matched low noise pair of valves, that would at the very least reduce residual noise. I'm not aware of Irish valve vendors but there must be some around. In the U.K. there are quite a number of them: CVC This is just one I traded with in the past. Happy trails,

Turns out that the problem lay with our cat eating one of my cables. However that link and information is very useful.
Thanks |
